'Papa, Mujhe Bacha Lo': Delhi Cab Driver Arrested Within Hours After 10-Year-Old Girl's Abduction and Murder

A heartbreaking crime in South Delhi has sent shock waves across the national capital after a 10-year-old girl was kidnapped when she was sleeping in the Mehrauli-Chattarpur area just outside the city in the early hours of Monday. A cab driver, who was alleged to have picked her up and forced her into his car, police said, took her away from her parents and three siblings at night.

The girl’s cries for help awakened her father, who was horrified and knew right away something was wrong. The father said he heard his daughter say “I’m a child” as she was being taken away, and recalled the horror of the moment.

Armed with only a stick, the father ran after the car in desperate attempts to save his child. But the white hatchback vanished in seconds and the family was left in a panic and disbelief.

In the case, the father quickly contacted the Police Control Room (PCR) and launched a search operation by multiple teams. CCTV footage from the surrounding area and nearly 200 cameras were reviewed to investigate the car and track its location.

The case was so urgent that authorities put technical surveillance teams in place and coordinated efforts across different parts of Delhi.

The footage showed the suspect’s vehicle had been moving around the area for some time before the alleged abduction, authorities said. The registration number was not visible at the time, but police were able to get some leads from surveillance images and trip information from ride-hailing apps in the area. GPS information and mobile phone location data were also used to track down the suspect and his movements.

Such efforts led investigators to West Delhi, where the accused cab driver was arrested hours after the incident. Police said that after abducting the child, he fled to an isolated area located near the Delhi-Haryana border. The victim was later found dead, and investigators said the accused attempted to bury the body in a forested area near the Faridabad-Gurugram road.

The swift arrest has been widely credited to the coordinated use of CCTV footage, GPS tracking technology, and rapid police response. But the tragedy has led to public outrage and renewed debate about children’s safety, particularly those in the most precarious situations.

The investigation will continue, and the authorities will probably charge the accused based on the law at this point. The whole family is now grieving a terrible loss, and more and more people are calling for stronger protective measures to keep children safe from these kinds of terrible crimes in the future. For many, the father’s desperate search and his daughter’s final cry for help have become a painful reminder of the imperative to keep all eyes on our children and ensure their safety, and to seek justice.
