A number of intelligence inputs warning of a potential terror attack by the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) has placed security forces in the national capital in high alert mode, following a series of alerts having been passed to security personnel.
According to reports of operations, Pakistan-backed outfit is already on the scene and is rumormongering a deadly IED or improvised explosive device strike in the densely populated Old Delhi, targeting religious places near the historic Red Fort and Chandni Chowk that have historically sheltered the pilgrims on these circuits.
The "Avenging" Narrative
Chatter has emerged among intelligence agencies that the LeT is wanting to retaliate for a mosque blast that took place on Feb. 6 in Islamabad. Handlers across the border, are said to have told local sleeper cells to zero in on high-visibility targets, focusing on the most visible temples in Delhi and other metropolises, as a way to make a psychological and communal dent.
Historical background - The dark of November 2025
This latest threat arrives at a highly sensitive time. Security measures remain on edge after the 15 dead in the November 10, 2025, car explosion near the Red Fort. That incident was a vehicle that had been laden with ammonium nitrate fuel oil, near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station, was recently pointed out by UN and NIA investigators as the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and white-collar terrorist modules. Heightened Patrols
The Delhi Police have stepped up foot patrols in Chandni Chowk, Lahori Gate and near big temples in collaboration with paramilitary forces.
- Electronic Surveillance: Facial recognition cameras and drone surveillance are monitoring what the authorities and contractors refer to as "suspicious movements" in SFS Flats and the marketplaces.
- Cordon and Search: Local “recce” attempts done by suspected people have been monitored, and “Wanted” posters of known LeT affiliates have been refreshed at metro stations and transit hubs.
National Coordination
The principal alert focuses on Delhi, though intelligence wings in Uttar Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, and Punjab have also been alerted. Significant religious sites are also being placed under "High Security" strategies to avoid unauthorized vehicles in high traffic zones across India. Citizens are told to stay alert and call in unattended bags or any unusual activity to the nearest police department or the emergency helpline.
