Karnataka Chief Minister Dr. Shivakumar has issued a strong message to dissatisfied legislators in the ruling Congress, saying any MLA who does not wish to stay in the party is free to resign and such resignations will be accepted “within minutes.”
The comments come as some Congress MLAs are vocal about discontent over governance, party affairs, and administrative issues in the province.
Dr. Shivakumar told reporters that the Congress leadership would not be affected by internal dissent. The party is committed to governance and development and legislators who are unhappy with the party's functioning have the option to step aside instead of creating instability, he said.
He has made it more difficult for Karnataka's political discourse to go on as the state's leaders are also unhappy about the situation of some ruling party legislators. Some MLAs are worried about constituency development, appointments, and their role in the government, there are reports of them to some extent.
But Dr. Shivakumar dismissed any notion that these complaints constitute a threat to the status of the Congress government.
The Chief Minister said the government enjoys a comfortable majority and remains focused on fulfilling the promises made to the people of Karnataka. He said the administration is working on welfare schemes, accelerating infrastructure development, and efficient governance and not political speculation.

The BJP and JD(S) have repeatedly accused the Congress of internal divisions and that anger of legislators could weaken the government. Dr. Shivakumar, however, rejected such claims and said the Congress remained united and could deal with internal issues at the party level.
Political observers think that the Chief Minister's comments are intended to reinforce party discipline and send a clear signal that the leadership will not tolerate public displays of discontent.
Large political parties are often confronted with varying opinions on ministerial powers, resources, and policy decisions; but in general leadership would hope that they would settle such matters internally.
