Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Thursday sought to dispel speculation about his recent meeting with the Congress leadership and claimed that there were no differences in the party and all leaders are still committed to the Congress.
Shivakumar said there was no problem, and he is not worried about the party’s central leadership; he would need to respect senior leaders’ feelings and maintain the unity within the organization.

"There is no problem. Yes, we have to respect the sentiments of some seniors, but we have only 33 seats. I do not deny anyone's desire. All of us are committed and loyal to the party," Shivakumar said.
His comments are in the presence of political speculation of internal discussions within Karnataka Congress on organizational matters and leadership coordination. But the Chief Minister tried to put together a united front and to make it clear that different aspirations among leaders are natural in a democratic political party.
Shivakumar also admitted that party leaders have personal ambitions and that he does not deny “anyone’s desire,” but that more so the focus is on strengthening the Congress organization and working as a whole.
The reference to having “only 33 seats” is probably related to the party’s parliamentary representation and shows that unity and a unified approach are needed in the Congress in the face of future political challenges.
The Karnataka Congress has always maintained that its leadership is united and focused on governance and organizational strengthening. Party leaders have repeatedly dismissed reports of factionalism, emphasizing that discussions with the central leadership are part of the Congress’s regular consultative process.
State leaders meet the high command of the Congress frequently and discuss governance, organizational strategy, and political planning. This is also an opportunity for the central leadership to hear feedback from the state units and respond to issues from senior leaders.
Political observers said that internal consultations are a routine feature of major political parties, especially after elections and organizational reviews. Differences of opinion, they said, are often resolved through dialogue within the party.
Hence, Shivakumar’s statement seems to be a show to party members and supporters and the rest of Karnataka Congress that the leadership is united, despite speculation about recent developments.
As the Congress has come back to governance in Karnataka in the face of new political challenges, the Chief Minister’s emphasis on loyalty, collective responsibility, and respect for senior leaders in the party's leadership is the manifestation of the party’s attempt to project organizational cohesion.
