Now, it is time to end animal exploitation as we know it, and replace carts with compassion. Most of us feel that bulls, oxen, and horses in carts are used to load all the stuff and carry most of the weight. They are heavy loaders but they often do not support themselves too well. Whereas this used to be needed for farmers and traders as technology advances, we now have better, faster, and more humane methods. But these innocent animals are still suffering so quietly. Social change will take place and we need to step back and think more compassionately about what’s happening.
Bulls and oxen are often seen pulling sugarcane carts or heavy loads and are subjected to a pain that comes as they go along, which people often don't see. Their bodies don’t allow for so much physical load and they get worn out, injured, and die shorter. What should once be practical has become exploitation, especially with the advent of modern machines and vehicles we do not need to work our beasts.
Technology has already changed so much. The work can be done with tractors, trucks, and other machines because not only can they do it more labor-efficiently but they can also do so effectively without being hurt. Progress should not come at the cost of another being’s pain. Phasing out the employment of animals has to demonstrate to a society: compassion and innovation can coexist.
Authorities need to take control and ban the use of animals to do heavy loading. Laws that are strict and there’s awareness to tell them about, and good paying substitutes for farmers and workers can help shift culture to be different for that sort of work or at least the thinking for both. But people must remember that animals are not mere tools but living beings and emotions are very real. Ultimately, it’s that compassion that should determine not convenience.
That is all technology is: it is human beings. Being kind means being aware of the suffering around us and taking the best path. We can stand for someone who can’t speak and be a voice for them; when we speak up so politely as in supporting an alternative; and so we’re not going to tolerate exploitation anymore (to us) will you do that, if you don’t see it, do that.
But it is time for animals not to do heavy loading work of any weight. Bulls and oxen should not be forced to pull carts or carry too much. With today's technology there is no reason to bring them misery. Progress must also be measured as speed and efficiency but also as compassion. Let’s be kind, be aware, and stand up for that one person who can’t stand up for themselves.
