A major accident was reported in Gujarat after the collapse of a part of an under-construction building in the Kudasan area near Gandhinagar. At least 10 to 15 workers are still trapped in the debris, and the fire department and emergency workers are digging for them, triggering a massive rescue effort.
It was happening while construction was ongoing at the site. The sudden structural collapse caused a large section of the building to come crashing down and trapped several workers who were inside the building at that time.
Emergency services rushed to the scene as soon as they learned of the collapse. Fire department and disaster response personnel are on the scene and searching for those buried under the rubble.
Eight workers have been rescued alive so far from the debris, but rescue teams fear there are still people buried in the collapsed structure. Heavy machinery and special equipment are being used to deal with the debris and keep the lives of the people buried underneath safe.
Fire Officer Rajesh Patel in Gandhinagar said rescue operations are still on a war footing.
Fire department teams are currently engaged in rescue operations at the site, Patel said.
The situation was so serious that top government officials came down to see the site. Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi came down to the site and has personally observed the rescue operation and is in charge of the rescue operation. When the rescue has been completed, the cause of the accident will be investigated.

Similar Tragedy in Delhi Raises Safety Concerns
The Gujarat building collapse comes three days after a tragic building collapse in Delhi's Satya Niketan area that claimed seven lives. In that case, a five-storey building used as PG accommodation collapsed suddenly, trapping several residents under the debris.
A preliminary investigation into the Delhi tragedy showed the building, which was estimated to be 40 to 50 years old, might have experienced unauthorized structural changes. The building may have been expanded to create rental income, and thus weakened its foundation and overall structural integrity, authorities said.
Police also found that repair and construction activities were going on in the basement at the time of the collapse. Building regulations and safety standards are being investigated, officials said.
The Delhi case has also attracted attention because of controversial clauses in the PG accommodation agreement, which were reported as being aimed to limit the operator’s liability for injuries, deaths, or property damage in cases of fire, earthquakes, heavy rain, or building-related emergencies.
