Patan, Gujarat: There is continuous rainfall in many parts of Gujarat’s Patan district, and Santalpur Taluka is one of the worst-affected areas. The heavy rainfall for the past several hours has caused widespread waterlogging, disrupted travel and caused much inconvenience to residents and people in the state as the southwest monsoon continues to be active, as well as the rain, which has been heavy.
Images from Santalpur Taluka show roads flooded with rainwater, low-lying areas inundated and vehicles unable to navigate flooded roads. Many rural roads are closed due to flooding, and many commuters have curtailed or cancelled their trips. Heavy rainfall has also affected local markets, schools, and daily business activity, disrupting the daily life cycle.

Residents in the affected areas report that sustained rainfall has made moving difficult. Water accumulation in residential areas has disrupted daily life, with many residents staying indoors as the situation is monitored. Some drainage systems have failed to handle the volume of rainwater, so long as it continues and water is still in the system.
Based on the changing weather pattern of Gujarat, the IMD has predicted continuous rainfall in several areas. Residents living in low-lying and flood-prone districts have been asked to be cautious and avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rains.
Local administration officials have been working at all vulnerable locations, and emergency-response teams have been placed on standby. City workers have been clearing the drainage channels to get rainwater out in fast succession. Water levels are also being closely monitored in other rivers and reservoirs to avoid any unanticipated emergencies.
Farmers in Patan district have had mixed feelings on the rains. While the heavy monsoon showers are expected to improve soil moisture and help the moisture in the soil and give standing crops such as cotton, groundnut, bajra, and castor, excessive waterlogging will affect crops if heavy rains persist in the long run. Farmers have been advised to check their fields and to ensure proper drainage if possible to avoid crop loss, the agricultural experts have said.
The heavy rainfall has also affected local transportation services. There were many roads in the area with slowdowns on some parts of roads as people in the traffic lane and many of them were slow down as they drove through waterlogged roads. Some public transport services were also affected by rain-affected areas where visibility and road conditions were made difficult by a lack of visibility and road problems, causing traffic to slow down as people walked over waterlogged areas.
Emergency services are prepared to respond to any incident arising from the adverse weather. Citizens should avoid going into flooded areas, not walk over flooded culverts and causeways, and immediately report any emergencies to local authorities, officials said. People should also be informed by the official weather bulletins and follow the advice given to them by district administration officials.
The monsoon season has brought above-normal rainfall to a large part of Gujarat despite a series of heavy rains in North Gujarat, Saurashtra and South Gujarat. Although rainfall is important for reservoirs and groundwater, and agriculture, too much in a short period leads to urban flooding and disrupted public life.
As weather systems continue to influence Gujarat, authorities remain vigilant in Patan district and surrounding regions.
