The heavy rain brought about a great deal of disruption to daily life, and many roads became impassable due to waterlogging. Traffic was bottlenecked on many roads, and some areas were impassable as people were in disarray with traffic, and there was congestion in the morning; some public transport services were also down, and public transport services were cancelled in some areas as cars had to navigate submerged streets.
Residents should stay indoors until necessary, and those living in a hazardous or low-lying area should be advised to follow evacuation procedures, the administration said. Rescue personnel remained monitoring the situation as rain continued to pour down on parts of the city. Pumps were used to drain accumulated water from areas of the city to clean water from the streets, and municipal workers worked to restore normalcy as quickly as possible to the city.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast continued rain in parts of Gujarat, and authorities are on high alert. District officials are monitoring rivers, reservoirs, and drainage systems to respond quickly to any further rise in water levels.
Monsoon rains often pose challenges for cities like Surat, where heavy rainfall can overwhelm drainage and cause localized flooding. Residents should stay updated on the situation and stay informed via official weather advisories, and assist emergency services as such, the authorities have said.
Emergency response teams remain on standby, and disaster management agencies are working cooperatively with local officials to ensure that those displaced by the flooding are provided with the right kind of help. Medical teams and essential supplies were also prepared in case there was more assistance.
The rescue and rehabilitation efforts will continue until the situation is resolved, officials have said. Residents had been told to report emergencies to emergency services using official lines and not to put such unverified information out on social media.
As heavy rains continue to hit parts of Gujarat, the focus remains on safeguarding lives, minimizing damage, and restoring essential services in the affected areas. Authorities have reiterated their appeal for public cooperation as weather conditions remain unpredictable.
