Heavy Rain in Bengaluru Brings Relief From Heat, Causes Waterlogging and Traffic Chaos

This evening, heavy rain hit the Karnataka capital, Bengaluru, India, and residents felt relief. But the pouring at night on Monday did not just significantly chill the temperature sharply; it also ushered in traffic disruption, waterlogging and annoyance to those commuting over much of the Karnataka capital.

Rainfall became torrential in some sections of Bengaluru at night during busy evening hours, surprising office patrons and motorists. Numerous of us who had come home after work were seen stranded along the side of roads, as torrential rain and breezy winds cut through visibility and impeded traffic.

Bicycle riders hovered off the streets alongside bus shelters, shops and commercial buildings as they sheltered themselves from the rain. Footage and photographs from all over the city captured streets flooded, traffic jams and commuters trying to weave through rain-drenched streets.

Rain Hits Different Regions In Bengaluru

These areas are Vasanth Nagar, City Market, Majestic, Shantinagar, Jayanagar, JP Nagar, Banashankari, Hebbal, Yelahanka, Rajajinagar, Indiranagar, Basavanagudi and Malleswaram, among others, and heavy rain in the last few days.

Following continual rains in a number of quarters, low-lying roads were rendered submerged, clogging parking spaces. Many roads were in place, but there was inadequate water drainage, which looked like little lakes. There were disturbances to traffic on the streets in the City. The sudden weather shift brought about intense traffic congestion across Bengaluru on its major roads and at major junctions.

Subsequent delays to commuters arose as vehicles glided through flooded stretches. It also caused authorities to be prepared at critical flood-prone areas. They said the K.R. Circle Underpass was temporarily shut because of built-up water. Cars were diverted for traffic without accidents, and obstructions were laid in the roadway to keep traffic from turning onto a bad path and stopping.

Bengaluru has had its share of heavy rains and floods, especially at underpasses and low-lying junctions with drainage infrastructure concerns in the city.

Rain Notice From Weather Department

More rains were predicted not only for Bengaluru but also for other parts of the state, India Meteorological Department (IMD) data showed. Coastal Karnataka, north interior Karnataka and south interior Karnataka are expected to receive moderate to heavy rains and a lot of rainfall with thunderstorms and forceful winds, according to the weather department.

Wind speeds in some regions are projected between 40 and 50 kmph, and officials warned there was a higher risk of trees falling, traffic problems and pockets of flooding. Heat Relief, But Issues Still to Be Solved. Rain offered a welcome respite from the blistering heat that had engulfed Bengaluru residents in the earlier days, yet exposed the city’s decades-long monsoon-related infrastructure woes.

The fall in temperature was refreshing for many civilians, and it was cooler than on hot days to come. At the same time, commuters complained about overcrowded roads, waterlogged roads and poor drainage systems, where roads were packed with traffic, they also complained. It seems likely that officials will not be so inclined to calm down later on as more rainfall is predicted for the next few days over Karnataka.
