A tragic incident in Hyderabad’s Miyapur area left residents shocked when a 37-year-old woman apparently jumped from the sixth floor of an apartment building while she was carrying her six-month-old baby. She died on the way down, while the infant survived the fall and is now being treated in hospital.
The deceased person, Isha Sahu, who lived in Mayuri Nagar in Miyapur, is identified as Isha Sahu.
According to initial accounts, Isha leapt from the sixth floor of the residential building with her six-month-old daughter, Vani. The fall killed her, and the woman died instantly before medical help could intervene, the police said.
But in what many say was an amazing survival, the baby survived the fall, despite suffering injuries. Residents who witnessed it instantly rushed to help the baby and brought her to a nearby hospital to be treated for injuries. The health authorities have not disclosed the child's current condition, but doctors are providing her with medical attention, the report says.
The incident has triggered a police investigation into the tragic outcome and the cause of the tragedy. Early investigations indicate Isha may have been in a state of extreme mental stress and depression after the birth of her second child.
Police officials told us that Isha was originally from the state of Madhya Pradesh and had been married for approximately 11 years. She is survived by her husband and two daughters, eight-year-old Vidi and six-month-old Vani.
Both Isha and her husband were employed in the private sector and lived in the apartment complex with their family in Miyapur. Other members of the family were present in the apartment at the time of the incident, the investigators said.
At 3:45 p.m., police and emergency response personnel rushed to the scene. The area was immediately secured, and an investigation was started.
Police are asking family members, relatives, neighbours, and acquaintances about any personal, medical, financial, or emotional problems that might have contributed to the incident. The victim’s activities and interactions are being examined by investigators as well.
The woman’s body has been transferred to a government hospital for a post-mortem examination. The results of the autopsy will help authorities determine the cause and circumstances of death.
Police have registered a case and said all possible angles are being examined. The depression angle is still the central focus of the investigation, but they said conclusions will only be drawn after a thorough inquiry.
The incident has again emphasised the need for mental health awareness to be developed and raised among new mothers who may be experiencing emotional and psychological suffering from postpartum depression. Postpartum depression can have severe effects on mental health and is often difficult to overcome, requiring timely and professional treatment.
The local community remains shaken by the tragedy, while prayers continue for the recovery of the infant who survived the devastating fall.
