The Indian Air Force Band will be performing a special musical performance at the Public Plaza, Param Yodha Sthal, National War Memorial, New Delhi on 9th August to celebrate our Independence Day.
The performance will take place from 5 pm to 6 pm on Aug 9, 2026, and will involve music, patriotism, and public involvement at one of the country’s most significant sites dedicated to India’s military heroes.
The event will celebrate Independence Day and commemorate 150 years of the national song “Vande Mataram.”
A total of 40 musicians will participate in the performance. The team will comprise 32 Airmen and eight Agniveervayu, including three women. The whole band is expected to deliver an energetic show that is patriotic and soulful.
The Indian Air Force Band has long been associated with ceremonial occasions and public performances, using music to connect the armed forces to citizens. The performances at national events often combine military precision and musical excellence to create a sense of pride and patriotism.
The National War Memorial performance is particularly important given the venue. Param Yodha Sthal honours India's decorated military personnel, making it the perfect place to celebrate our nation and the spirit of Independence Day.
The musicians are preparing a repertoire designed to appeal to audiences of different age groups. With a combination of patriotic and soulful numbers, the performance is expected to create an engaging experience for members of the public attending the event.
The performance will be led by Master Warrant Officer A Srihari, who will be the main conductor. He will be assisted by Junior Warrant Officer Moon Deka, Junior Warrant Officer Abhishek Paul, and Sergeant NT Singh.
The participation of Agniveervayu personnel, including women musicians, also reflects the changing composition of India's armed forces and the opportunities available to young personnel to contribute to ceremonial and public-facing military activities.
The special occasion comes just weeks before India’s Independence Day, when we celebrate the country’s independence from colonialism and pay tribute to the people who sacrificed so much in the struggle for independence.
This year’s programme is also of special cultural significance since it’s 150 years of “Vande Mataram.” The song, written by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, has always been at the heart of India’s national history and became closely associated with the freedom movement.
The historical aspect of the song and the IAF Band’s musical performance are expected to give people a strong reminder of India’s journey from the freedom struggle to the present day.
The Ministry of Defence has described the event as an opportunity to strengthen national pride through public engagement. Rather than having a formal Independence Day ceremony at the country’s national capital, displays like this enable citizens to participate in the celebration of the army and national history.
The performance will give visitors to the National War Memorial the opportunity to see the musical traditions of the Indian Air Force as well as reflect on the sacrifices of India’s military personnel.
The event will be held on August 9 from 1700 hrs to 1800 hrs, so the public can witness the performance ahead of Independence Day.
With a 40-member musical team, a programme of patriotic compositions, and the historic setting of Param Yodha Sthal, the IAF Band’s performance will be a memorable addition to the Independence Day celebrations in the national capital.
It will be music, remembrance, and patriotism for the people to come together and celebrate India’s national spirit and the country’s military history and the lasting legacy of “Vande Mataram.”
