The couple were reported to have locked their home at about 4:30 p.m. to have a weekend evening out at a local cafe, the police complaint states. But within only two hours, unknown burglars reconnoitered the area, entered the home and fled with a vast haul of valuables.

Discovery of the Crime

The theft was revealed when the couple returned home by 6:30 p.m. When they reached their floor, they were surprised to find the lock of the main door mangled and broken. And as they stepped into the flat, their worst fears came true. The master bedroom was fully ransacked and the wardrobes were ripped open, leaving clothes and accessories strewn across the floor. The burglars targeted the valuables rather than any electronic gadgets and thus only high-value metals. The stolen booty includes:

  • Gold jewellery worth 250 grams (necklaces, bangles, and rings).
  • 300 grams of Silver articles taken from the puja room
  • Other priceless gems and luxury items.
  • It is estimated that the total stolen goods are worth more than ₹30 lakh in value.

Police and Legal Enforcement Measures

After the discovery, Balaji promptly notified the local police. Officials from Banaswadi Police Station came to the scene with a team that included fingerprintists and forensic staff. Under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the police have registered a complaint under:

  • Section 305: Theft in a dwelling house.
  • Section 331: Related to house-breaking by night (or daytime with the intent to commit an offense).

“The timing suggests that the perpetrators may have been surveilling the residents' movements,” said a police official. "The fact that they got there and completed the jobs in just two hours on a busy Saturday evening points us toward a pro gang."

Security Concerns in HRBR Layout

Currently, CCTV footage from the apartment complex and the various streets are being used by police to identify people and vehicles from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM. This breach has rattled HRBR Layout, a highly populated area with IT specialists, locals. Now residents are calling for extra patrol of the police, and improved security protocols for apartment complexes. Police officials recommend that home owners deploy state of the art digital security systems and motion-sensor alarms, especially once people have left property unattended for a small amount of time.
