More questions have been raised over the conduct of JEE Advanced 2026, one of India's most competitive engineering entrance exams, after advocate and social activist Vineet Jindal asked for an independent investigation into alleged irregularities, transparency concerns and examination-related complaints.
In a letter to the Union Minister of Education, Jindal asked the government to form an independent high-level committee to investigate allegations that, according to him, have affected public confidence in the examination process.
The representation comes as there is a growing debate over score variations, invigilation standards, CCTV monitoring and the handling of examination data.
According to Jindal, the representation includes a complaint by a JEE aspirant along with supporting documents and other relevant material for the Ministry's consideration.
He shared the development on social media, stating that “we all want a transparent and credible examination process for genuine students and every genuine student deserves a transparent and credible examination process. I hope the Ministry will look at these issues and take appropriate action for justice."
Key Concerns Raised
The representation also highlights several issues that Jindal thinks are urgent and require an impartial investigation.
Most worrying are the unusually large variations in the marks obtained by some candidates between Paper 1 and Paper 2, allegations of inadequate invigilation and cheating at some examination centres, questions about the effectiveness of CCTV monitoring, and what he described as contradictory public statements issued by the authorities responsible for conducting the examination.
The representation also raises concerns regarding the non-disclosure of anonymised statistical data, even if the requests were for only non-personal information that would not compromise candidate privacy.
These concerns caused great apprehension among students and parents as well as raised doubts regarding the credibility of the exam, the letter said.
Demand for High-Level Committee
Jindal has urged the Ministry of Education to appoint an independent high-level committee of academicians, technical experts and retired judicial officers to address the concerns.
The proposed panel should conduct a fair and impartial inquiry into all allegations regarding JEE Advanced 2026, according to the representation.
The committee has also been requested to:
Examine electronic records, CCTV footage and examination centre documents. Conduct a detailed audit of centres where complaints have been reported. Assess whether the verification carried out by the organising institute was adequate. Recommend the publication of anonymised statistical data while protecting candidate privacy. Suggest action against any individual or institution found responsible for malpractice or negligence.
Jindal said that because JEE Advanced is the gateway to the prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), maintaining the integrity and credibility of the examination is of paramount importance.
A fair and independent inquiry would not only address the concerns of thousands of students but it would also enhance public confidence in the examination system, the representation states.
At the time of writing, neither the Ministry of Education nor the organising institute for JEE Advanced 2026 had issued an official response to the representation or announced any inquiry into the allegations.
The concerns highlighted in the representation are allegations made by the petitioner and no official investigation has yet confirmed any irregularities in the conduct of JEE Advanced 2026.
