A tragic incident in Tumakuru district has claimed the life of a schoolboy after a concrete pillar from a Nandini Dairy building collapsed and fell on him while he was playing near the structure. The incident took place at Biligihalli village in Chikkanayakanahalli taluk on Tuesday morning.
The deceased student has been identified as Dhanush, a student of Government Higher Primary School in the village. Preliminary information indicated that it happened at 9.30 am when the boy was near the dairy building close to the school.
Pillar Collapses on Student
According to the report, Dhanush was playing near the Nandini Dairy building when a pillar suddenly collapsed. The concrete structure fell directly onto the child and caused him severe injuries.
The impact was so severe that the student died at the spot.
The incident has shocked Biligihalli’s residents because the accident occurred near a school where children are often moving around and playing.
The exact reasons behind the collapse of the pillar are still not known. The building will be investigated, and structural or construction problems are likely to be responsible for the accident.
Villagers Raise Questions Over Construction Quality
Local residents soon became angry and questioned the quality of construction work at the Nandini Dairy building after the tragedy.
Villagers have alleged that poor-quality construction was a factor in the collapse. They have also asked for the officials and engineers involved in the construction and maintenance of the structure to be held responsible.
Residents have questioned how a pillar from the building collapsed without warning and whether the building had been properly assessed for safety and quality.
But these allegations are yet to be independently established. The structural failure will be examined in depth.
Incident Near Government School Causes Concern
The fact that the incident happened close to a government school has intensified concerns among parents and local residents.
Schoolchildren frequently come around schools, and residents have questions about whether there were sufficient safety measures around the construction site or building.
The incident revived fears of older or incomplete structures being in proximity to schools and other places where children gather.
Parents and villagers are expected to ask for a close inspection of nearby buildings to avoid such accidents in the future.
Police Begin Inquiry
The incident was reportedly under the jurisdiction of Handanakere Police Station.
Police will be investigating the cause of the collapse and seeking information from witnesses and the officials involved in the building’s collapse.
The building records, structural condition, and safety arrangements of the building would also be examined as part of the inquiry.
If negligence or violations are found, action could be taken against those found responsible.
Family and Village Left in Shock
Dhanush’s sudden death has left his family and the local community devastated. A child who had been near the school to play allegedly died at the very moment the concrete pillar collapsed.
There is grief and anger in the village, and people want those responsible to be identified and held accountable.
The tragedy has once again made it more important that buildings and structures near schools are well maintained.
The questions that will be answered as the investigation continues are whether the pillar was structurally substandard, if there were any safety checks done, and if the construction standards were followed and the safety inspections were performed properly.
All of this will be disclosed as police and other authorities investigate the incident.
