BJP has asked the Karnataka Government to provide immediate financial relief of ₹50,000 per acre in a drought-ravaged state with serious crop losses in many parts of it. Farmers are tired of poor rainfall, inadequate water sources and economic pressure on farmers.
And, according to BJP leaders, thousands of farmers are suffering crop failures after delayed and insufficient monsoon rains have affected agricultural activities in many districts.
The BJP party said the state government has not taken any action to tackle this as soon as possible and it is not ready to form a comprehensive relief package which will be announced.
BJP leaders said farmers have invested in seeds, fertilizers, irrigation and labour so much that they have had to pay for crop damage due to prolonged dry weather and water shortages. They said a compensation of ₹50,000 per acre would help farmers recover some of their losses and prepare for the next cultivation season.
The opposition also claimed the state government has not provided enough financial support to farmers’ organizations and local people despite long-standing appeals from farmers’ groups and local representatives.
BJP leaders have said relief measures should not be postponed, they added, with many farmers facing a mounting debt burden and uncertainty over their livelihoods.
Much of Karnataka has been experiencing below-normal rainfall in recent weeks, affecting crops like paddy, maize, ragi, pulses, and sugarcane. There are also low water levels in reservoirs and lakes, which could affect irrigation availability in the coming months.
Agriculture is the main source of income for a large number of rural people in Karnataka, so government intervention is going to be highly important to help the people in the country.
BJP also demanded that the government conduct a transparent survey of crop damage and make sure compensation goes to eligible farmers and is paid out to them without any bureaucratic delays.

Other measures were also sought including easier access to crop insurance claims, waiver of interest on agricultural loans, and uninterrupted electricity supply for irrigation.
Farmer groups have also raised concerns about the financial toll of the drought. Many have expressed concern about the financial burden of the drought on farms and farmers’ livelihoods. Both state and central governments should collaborate to provide emergency assistance and protect rural livelihoods.
Karnataka has said it is closely monitoring the rainfall situation and the extent of crop damage in affected districts. Local authorities are expected to review the situation and make any additional relief measures for farmers after consulting local communities.
As the agricultural crisis deepens, political pressure on the state government is expected to intensify. Farmers in Karnataka are looking for quick financial assistance from the government to help sustain their livelihoods until normal weather conditions return.
The demand for ₹50,000 per acre has now become a major political issue and the BJP wants the government to put farmers' welfare ahead of political differences and act on the issue fast.
