The winter chill is intensifying across Karnataka as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a cold wave alert for several districts. While North Karnataka braces for a significant dip in temperatures, the weather in the coastal regions is expected to follow a different pattern.
Severe Cold Alert in 4 Key Districts
According to the latest forecast for December 19, 2025, severe cold wave conditions are likely to prevail in four major districts of North Interior Karnataka:
- Bidar
- Kalaburagi
- Vijayapura
- Bagalkote
In these regions, the minimum temperature is expected to hover between 8°C and 11°C, which is significantly below the seasonal normal. Residents, especially the elderly and children, are advised to take necessary precautions against the biting morning and night chill.
Weather Outlook for Coastal Karnataka
Unlike the interior parts of the state, the Coastal Karnataka belt (including Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Uttara Kannada) will experience relatively stable weather:
- Status: Predominantly dry weather is expected.
- Conditions: While the mornings may feel slightly cool and misty, the daytime will remain sunny and dry.
- Temperature: Minimum temperatures in coastal towns are likely to range between 20°C and 22°C, maintaining a comfortable winter atmosphere compared to the harsh cold of the north.
Forecast for Bengaluru and Malnad
- Bengaluru: The state capital will continue to see misty mornings and clear skies. The minimum temperature is likely to settle around 15°C to 16°C.
- Malnad Region: Districts like Shivamogga, Hassan, and Kodagu will experience a notable chill during the early hours, with temperatures dipping to 13°C-14°C.
