Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy visited government schools in Amberpet, Hyderabad and highlighted the need for better maintenance, cleanliness and sanitation facilities in educational institutions. Reddy handed over three additional classrooms built at a government school and suggested better arrangements to maintain school cleanliness and hygiene.
Reddy referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s emphasis on government schools and making students aware of hygiene. He added cleanliness should take place in classrooms and on other parts of school campuses and students should also know the importance of hygienic surroundings.
Reddy's visit was focused on infrastructure and basic facilities in government schools. Construction of more classrooms is to provide more space for students and to help in the running of the school. The Union Minister also spoke of sanitation staff and their working conditions.

Reddy stated a clean school environment is important to students and teachers. He said government schools need to have proper sanitation and maintenance arrangements in place.
“Narendra Modi frequently emphasises the importance of government schools being well-maintained and clean,” Reddy said, according to remarks made during the visit.
And the physical condition of school buildings needs to be addressed and the students need to be trained in hygiene and keeping the place clean.
The emphasis on school infrastructure comes as education is one of the top priorities of the Telangana government. The state government has announced various policies for government schools, meals, pre-primary education and new residential schools.
Three Additional Classrooms Handed Over
When he visited Amberpet schools, Reddy said he had come to hand over three additional classrooms that had been built at the school.
Additional classrooms can help government schools manage student strength and offer separate spaces for teaching and learning. Infrastructure improvements need to be made in schools that need more classrooms as enrolment changes or educational programmes are expanded.
Reddy had also met with school authorities and looked at the facilities. His office has previously highlighted visits to government educational institutions in Amberpet, including an inspection of school facilities earlier this year.
The focus on physical infrastructure is part of a larger discussion of the quality of government-school education, where classroom availability, sanitation, learning resources and basic amenities all contribute to the school environment.

Call for guaranteed salaries for Sanitation Staff.
Reddy’s main point was that sanitation workers should be appointed in government schools for assured wages.
“I request the Telangana government to ensure that sanitation staff in every school are provided with proper, assured salaries,” he said.
The appeal puts the spotlight on the role of sanitation workers in maintaining school premises. Regular cleaning of classrooms, toilets and other common areas requires dedicated staff, particularly in schools with large numbers of students.
Reddy’s remarks also relate school hygiene to student awareness. Clean campuses are not just about infrastructure but they are about regular cleaning, access to sanitation facilities and promoting students to be hygienic.

The visit is also taking place at the same time as several education-related projects in Telangana. The state government is in the process of improving government-school education and infrastructure, it has said.

The state government has separately inaugurated new government-school buildings, including a girls' school building in Kodangal last month, and outlined broader education reforms.
