Something shocking came to light in Bengaluru after a former Mumbai-based radio jockey was discovered dead in her apartment near Manyata Tech Park.
The deceased, named Manisha, 49, is thought to have died in her flat by suicide. The incident came to light after relatives couldn't get in touch with her on the phone and later visited her domicile. According to sources in the police, Manisha was previously a radio jockey in Mumbai.
She divorced her husband in 2023 and reportedly moved to Bengaluru in April of this year, where she bought a flat near Manyata Tech Park, where she lived alone. Police preliminary reports are linking the incident to May 23. Her relatives grew worried after consecutive phone calls went unanswered.
When family members arrived at the apartment and checked the flat, they reportedly noticed Manisha hanging inside the house and reported the case straight to the police. Things got serious when police found a suicide note in the apartment. In the note, the man, named Harshvardhan Singh Bansal, allegedly caused her severe mental suffering, she claims in that same note.
She said she had been in a relationship with him, and his family members were all aware of it. In the note, it is said that Manisha made a claim that she was constantly subjected to psychological abuse by Harshvardhan Singh Bansal.
She said she could not take emotional distress and mental trauma from the harassment, which then led her to take the drastic measure. Authorities from Amruthahalli Police Station arrived at the area not long after the incident was reported and surveyed the apartment.
The suicide note and Manisha’s phone were seized by the police in the investigation. A case has now been recorded per Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), abetment of suicide. Investigators are also searching the notes, digital evidence in the phone case and other related materials to find the circumstances that led to the incident.
Police officials made no arrests in the case and say further legal action will depend on the findings of the investigation. The tragic episode is a reminder of already existing problems around mental health, emotional abuse and the added burden of being in the loneliest metropolitan areas. And authorities are still investigating the full situation of Manisha’s death.
