The Borivali Police have filed a case against 10 people for allegedly causing public nuisance as they were seen to have been on a public road during a birthday party in the Gorai area of Mumbai.
According to police officials, the incident happened at Sukhsagar Cooperative Housing Society in Gorai-2, where a group of young men organised a birthday celebration in the middle of a public road. The cake cutting on the street, parking vehicles in a way that blocked traffic, and firing a baby air gun into the air occurred.
The celebration disrupted the normal flow of traffic and caused inconvenience to commuters and residents, officials said. The viral video, which spread widely on social media platforms, showed the group occupying a portion of the roadway while carrying out the celebrations. The footage raised concerns about public safety and the growing trend of organising roadside birthday parties that interfere with public movement.
After the video was circulated, Borivali Police launched an investigation to identify those involved. Based on the video footage and local intelligence, officers arrested the participants and took them into custody for questioning.
The main accused was identified as Akash Ramphul Gupta (26). He was arrested, and nine others have been booked in connection with the incident. All parties involved have been identified, and legal proceedings are underway, police said.
The group blocked a public road, and police also noted that a baby air gun was fired into the air during the celebration. Although the weapon was not a typical firearm, police said it creates panic and the public can be exposed to danger and breaches multiple legal obligations.
A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Motor Vehicles Act, Maharashtra Police Act, and the Arms Act. The police are investigating all aspects of the incident, and additional charges might be made based on the collected evidence.
Police officers said public roads are for transportation and can’t be used for private celebrations that block traffic or endanger public safety. They said strict action would be taken against people who are involved in such activities and if they disrupt public order.
Several incidents of birthday celebrations, stunts, and gatherings on public roads have been reported in the last few years across major Indian cities. The police have warned several times not to do so and said that road safety, vehicle access, and the inconvenience of such events are concerns.
The incident has brought public behaviour back into the public eye. Social media users were quick to say that public safety and police action for viral content should not be at the expense of public safety.

Traffic experts also explained that even temporary road blockages can affect the flow of urban traffic in cities, particularly in densely populated areas like Mumbai, and there is a cascading effect of road blockages on a lot of people who live there. Any public gathering in any public space should be done in line with traffic rules and with permission from the government, they said.
The Borivali Police also stressed their commitment to ensuring law and order and called for citizens to enjoy special occasions responsibly. They urged the public to report incidents that disrupt public movement or pose safety concerns.
The accused will be held under the relevant laws as the investigation continues. Such actions for social media attention or public display can be very gravely damaging to public safety and civic order.
