Mumbai and other districts are under heavy rainfall, and the weather authorities have issued an Orange Alert for Mumbai, Thane, and Palghar as these areas are experiencing heavy rainfall. Heavy rains might lead to gusty winds, and the high tide could lead to flooding in low-lying areas and waterlogging in the city’s low-lying areas.
Some parts of Mumbai are experiencing moderate to heavy showers, meteorologists said. Thane and Palghar are on high alert as waterlogging is already happening due to torrential rains in the Thane and Palghar districts and in at-risk areas. Emergency response teams are on high alert in the city and at-risk areas.
High tide along Mumbai's coastline should be a serious concern for authorities. Rainwater drainage into the ocean is slower during high tides, which could flood low-lying areas. Water may be blocked if the amount of rain increases and roads are closed, and these areas that have long been prone to water accumulation may need to be blocked.
Due to heavy rain, commuters should plan their trip and allow more time for their journeys. The local railway services, the lifeline of Mumbai’s economy, are being closely monitored. There are still wet and waterlogged tracks that might cause delays on some routes, so some routes are still operating.
Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has been on site to clear drains and respond to emergencies at the city level. Pumping stations are operational, and disaster management personnel are on site to prepare for flooding. Residents living in vulnerable areas should stay updated through official advisories and should not venture into flooded roads or waterlogged underpasses.
Traffic authorities have also urged people to exercise caution during peak hours. Poor visibility, slippery roads, and waterlogging could slow down traffic on the city’s main roads and highways connecting Mumbai to Thane and neighbouring regions.
Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the Arabian Sea due to rough weather conditions and strong winds associated with the ongoing monsoon activity. Coastal residents are also advised to stay away from the shoreline during high tide times.
The active monsoon over the Konkan region is leading to widespread rainfall over Maharashtra’s coastal areas. Weather experts indicate that moisture-laden winds from the Arabian Sea and favourable atmospheric conditions are expected to sustain rain activity over the coming days.
Authorities have urged citizens not to panic but to remain vigilant. People should monitor weather updates, avoid unnecessary travel during heavy downpours, and follow instructions issued by local administration and disaster management agencies.
With the Orange Alert in place and high tides expected, Mumbai, Thane, and Palghar residents should be prepared for waterlogging, traffic disruptions, and localised flooding as the monsoon continues to make its presence felt across the region.
