Six people from Odisha have been arrested in Kerala’s Palakkad district after police seized 54 kg of ganja from their possession, the officials said.
The arrests took place near Palakkad Junction Railway Station where the suspects were stopped by police after getting off the train.
The six Odisha natives arrived at Ernakulam in search of jobs, the police said. They headed to Palakkad later and were caught by the Hemambika Nagar Police on their way out of the railway station. They were stopped and searched and questioned, they said.
Police found a large amount of ganja being carried by the suspects during the inspection. The total amount seized was around 54 kg. The six people were arrested.
The incident highlights the important role of railway stations and other important transit points in police efforts to detect the movement of illegal drugs.
Palakkad Junction is an important railway hub connecting Kerala to various parts of southern and eastern India, making it a key transit location.
