A woman was walking on a street with just her six-month-old baby in her arms when the pit bull rushed for them with its tail raised in the air, she said. The dog bit the woman and pushed the child down on the ground before attacking her. The dog bit and dragged the child across the road, according to witnesses. There was video of what was going on, so it’s even more disturbing.
Residents rushed to the scene immediately upon hearing screams and tried to save the child. The dog was not going to let go; however, many people had to intervene to get the baby out of the dog’s grip. Emergency services were immediately called in, and the infant was brought to a nearby medical clinic and taken to a more specialised hospital for treatment.

Doctors have described the child’s condition as “critical.” The baby suffered serious injuries to its head, face, and other parts of the body during the attack. The infant is now in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS) in Rohtak. The child's condition is closely monitored by medical teams as family members anxiously look forward to any signs of recovery.
The incident has angered residents of the neighbourhood, and many of them are questioning the dog’s owner's behaviour. Residents said the pit bull was allowed in a wide public area without safety measures, such as a leash or muzzle. The attack has reignited discussions about responsible pet ownership and the need for tougher control on potentially dangerous breeds of dogs. Residents have demanded stronger action to prevent such incidents from happening in the future.
In a similar way, the Sonipat attack has also brought to light existing rules to control aggressive dog breeds in India. There were no restrictions on the import, breeding, and sale of more than 23 aggressive dog breeds, including pit bulls, Rottweilers, and Dogo Argentinos, until 2012, when the Department of Animal Husbandry issued guidelines.
Ghaziabad, Lucknow, Chandigarh, and Greater Noida have already been very strict on keeping such breeds as pets, as have many other local governments. But the recurring incidents have raised questions of enforcement, public safety, and what owners of a pet can do to prevent such tragedies from happening again.
