Nayab Singh Saini on Wednesday announced early summer vacations to schools across the state amid severe heatwave conditions. This decision was made at a high-level meeting of the State Education Department on May 20.

The announcement said that all government and private schools throughout Haryana will stay closed from May 25 through June 30. Earlier, the summer vacations started from June 1, but the state government pushed back the holidays in response to rising temperatures and heatwave concerns.

The two-hour-long meeting, which was presided over by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and was attended by Education Minister Mahipal Dhanda and senior officials, just days after the meeting took place, the chief minister said the decision had been approved after a review of the extreme heat in the state. 

Rewari Revised School Times

The government also announced revised school timings in the Rewari district in the wake of the holiday. All government and private schools in the district will operate from 7 am to 12 noon beginning May 20, 2026, until additional notice per the above order. The move follows an orange alert from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) for heatwave conditions in Haryana and neighbouring areas.

In Several Cities, Temperature Crosses 45°C

Certain cities of Haryana experienced quite high weather, with many having temperatures even exceeding 45°C. According to meteorological data:

Faridkot had a reported maximum temperature of 47.3°C, and Rohtak reached as high as 46.9°C, ranking these as among the hottest places in the region.

Mobile Phones Ban at School For Teachers

It's a meeting with the Haryana government to have some conversation about discipline and culture change. Teachers will no longer be allowed to use cell phones during school hours, the court ruled. The Chief Minister said mobile phone usage in classes can take it on to distract students and inhibit their studies.

The steps are intended to bring more focus and discipline into the classrooms. ‘Shramdaan’ to Be Integrated into the School Curriculum. Another significant decision made in the meeting included including “shramdaan,” or voluntary community work, in the school curriculum. Under this plan, activities for students include:

  • Gardening
  • Environmental conservation drives
  • Community welfare activities

According to the Haryana government, this initiative is intended to encourage discipline, social responsibility, teamwork and respect for labour to be instilled in students from an early age. The latest decisions show the state government’s determination to safeguard students from extreme weather and its focus on discipline and value-based education in schools.
