Narendra Modi will celebrate his 76th birthday on September 17, 2026. Political leaders and public figures will offer greetings all day. But the prime minister’s birthday isn’t only about celebrations; there will be a lot of official functions and national ceremonies on his birthday.
At the heart of Modi's schedule today is the opening of SEMICON India 2026, and birthday-related public-service programmes are being organised across the country.
PM Modi to inaugurate SEMICON India 2026.
One of Modi's most important engagements on Modi's schedule is the inauguration of SEMICON India 2026 in New Delhi.
The three-day event, which takes place from September 17 to 19, brings together semiconductor companies, policymakers, investors, researchers, start-ups and electronics industry representatives.
The event is for the development of India's semiconductor ecosystem and investment and technological partnership. “Silicon to Systems: Building the Ecosystem” is the theme of it.
Modi also held a roundtable with senior management from a number of leading semiconductor companies in the world including Micron Technology, ASML, Infineon Technologies, Applied Materials, Tokyo Electron, AMD, Intel and Tata Electronics ahead of the inauguration.
The discussions were focused on India’s ambitions in semiconductor manufacturing, technology and the electronics ecosystem in general.
Birthday Activities Across India
While Modi's official schedule is government and industry-related, birthday activities are taking place across a number of states.
The BJP has launched the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan, which includes blood donation drives, tree plantation, cleanliness campaigns and other public-service work.
Gujarat also hosts large-scale celebrations of diyas lighting and saplings distribution and other community events. In Ahmedabad, there was a midnight event of lighting of 76,000 diyas at midnight and the distribution of 76 Gir cows to economically weaker women and also a campaign of 76,000 saplings.
Vadnagar to Varanasi Bike Yatra
Another important initiative on Modi’s birthday is the Seva Sankalp Bike Yatra that connects Vadnagar, his birthplace, to Varanasi, his parliamentary constituency.
The event is part of a series of programmes on Modi’s birthday and his years in public life. Union ministers and BJP leaders are likely to be among them.
These programmes will go on beyond September 17, making the birthday the start of a wider public-service campaign rather than a one-day celebration.
