Narendra Modi inaugurated the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Youth Centre - Viveka Smaraka in Mysuru, Karnataka, which is a very special place for the life, teachings, and lasting ideas of Swami Vivekananda.
The newly built centre is located at the Sri Ramakrishna Ashrama in Mysuru and has been built to foster youth development, cultural learning, value-based education and personality building. The inauguration was held as part of the Prime Minister’s visit to Mysuru on August 1, 2026.

The Viveka Smaraka is an initiative to commemorate Swami Vivekananda’s historic visit to Mysuru in 1892 during his travels across India. It will continue to serve the mission of his for character building, self-confidence, service to society, and youth empowerment as the centre.
Prime Minister Modi inaugurated the facility in front of senior spiritual leaders and dignitaries. Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar and Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot were among those who were present at the programme. The Prime Minister was welcomed at Mysuru on arrival, with the inauguration ceremony.
Swami Vivekananda Cultural Youth Centre has been developed as a full platform to learn about Indian culture, moral values and the teachings of Swami Vivekananda. Educational activities, leadership programmes, cultural events and personal development are planned at this institution.
According to information released by the Viveka Smaraka, the place consists of a 650-seat covered amphitheatre, an experience theatre featuring content on the life and teachings of Swami Vivekananda, an exhibition hall, a public library and a study centre for students preparing for competitive examinations.
It aims to train young people in practical and vocational skills and to encourage responsible participation in society. As such, it is aimed at ethical behaviour, integration of personality and knowledge of India’s cultural heritage.
