On the eve of Republic Day 2026, Rajasthan Police successfully intercepted a massive cache of explosive materials during a high-stakes operation. The District Special Team (DST) and local police raided a farmhouse in the Harsaur village of Nagaur district, recovering 9,550 kg of ammonium nitrate and a vast array of detonating equipment.
The Raid and Recovery
Following a specific intelligence tip-off regarding the illegal storage of high-intensity explosives, a joint team led by Nagaur Superintendent of Police (SP) Mridul Kachhawa conducted a midnight raid on Saturday, January 24. The explosives were found meticulously hidden across four rooms of a farmhouse located on agricultural land. The seized inventory includes:
- 9,550 kg Ammonium Nitrate (stored in 187 sacks/cartons).
- 9 Cartons of Detonators.
- 30+ Bundles of Fuse Wire (both red and blue wick wires).
- Significant quantities of "Gullas" and other blasting components.
Arrest and Criminal Profile
The police arrested Suleman Khan (58), a resident of the area, at the scene. Investigations revealed that Khan is a history-sheeter with at least three prior cases registered against him under the Explosives Act in Thanvla, Padukallan, and Alwar. While the accused claimed the materials were intended for supply to illegal mining operators in the region, the sheer volume and the timing—just hours before national celebrations—have raised serious security alarms.
Multi-Agency Investigation
Given the potential for mass destruction ammonium nitrate was notably used in the November 2025 Red Fort blast—central intelligence agencies have been roped in. "While he claims mining links, we are not ruling out a larger plot. The quantity is enough to cause catastrophic damage over a massive radius," a senior police official stated. Suleman Khan has been charged under the Explosive Substances Act, 1884 and relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
