A close aide of SAD President Sukhbir Singh Badal was shot dead by unidentified attackers in Punjab, raising fears about law and order in the state.
The attack came hours after the attack which took place in broad daylight according to police investigators and police are conducting a high-profile search for suspects and trying to arrest those behind it as we know nothing about it.
The victim was targeted by armed attackers who opened fire before fleeing the scene, the report said. The wounded aide was taken to a hospital where doctors are treating him. His condition is being closely monitored.
Punjab political leaders, especially the Shiromani Akali Dal, are heartbroken at the attack and they are now calling for a quick investigation and the arrest of the culprits.
Police arrived on the scene quickly and were collecting evidence. CCTV footage from other locations is being examined and forensic experts are looking into the site to see what is going on. Investigators are also asking witnesses and getting a look at the victim’s recent movement to see if the attack was pre-planned or linked to any personal or political rivalry.

Police officials have confirmed that there are several teams working on the case from various angles. There is no suggestion the motive is political enmity, personal dispute, or even other criminal reasons at this point in time,” the senior police officials say. “And we are asking everyone to give us any information and help us identify the attackers.
The attack has once again reignited the debate on the security of political leaders and their associated people in Punjab. Opposition parties had frequently raised concerns about rising violence in the state and called for stepped up policing and intelligence gathering to prevent such attacks.
Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal has expressed concern over the incident and demanded a fair and impartial investigation. Party members have said attacks on political workers instill fear and dilute democracy and those who undertake violence need to be punished severely.
Security has been beefed up in the area since the shooting to prevent any further untoward incidents. Local police have started checking vehicles and surveillance along the roadways in and around the area for any suspicious activity.
Officials are expected to disclose more of the motive, identities of the attackers, and the condition of the injured aide in the coming days. Police are still investigating the case and all leads must be pursued," said police spokesman Peter H. Conneer.
Law enforcement is yet to contend with more targeted attacks and to build public confidence in security. The outcome of the investigation will be closely watched because the victim is linked to one of the leading political figures in Punjab, politicians say.
