Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary participated in the Ashirwad Ka Diya programme in Patna on Thursday as part of the ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’. The lamp-lighting event in Bihar will be held on September 17 as part of a wider month-long programme of public participation, service and welfare activities.
The ‘Ashirwad Ka Diya’ initiative is being organized in honour of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday. In Bihar, ceremonial lamps are lit at public places as well as district, subdivision, block, panchayat and booth levels. The programme is among the activities planned under the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan, which is going to run from September 17 to October 17.
In Patna, the campaign has been conducted by many places such as Marine Drive and other public spaces. The larger project is a service-based initiative to involve government representatives, party members and the public. The programme is based on welfare outreach, cleanliness, development of youth and public involvement.
‘Ashirwad Ka Diya’ marks the start of Month-Long Campaign
The lamp-lighting programme is the beginning of Seva Sankalp Abhiyan in Bihar. According to the Bihar Chief Minister’s Office, the campaign will continue from September 17 to October 17 and a separate 'Seva Sankalp evam Kayakalp Abhiyan' is planned to continue until March 31, 2027.
The preparations for the campaign were reviewed by Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary earlier this month. In a meeting, officials outlined 13 major programmes to be conducted in the month-long campaign. The chief minister also directed officials to ensure public participation in activities planned under the initiative.
The Ashirwad Ka Diya programme will involve people at many administrative levels from district level to local organisational and community level. The Deepotsav will be held from district level to local organisational and community level. The organisers also invited people to light lamps in their homes and public spaces to participate.

Several Public-Focused Activities Planned
The Seva Sankalp Abhiyan has various programmes that are aimed at different sections of society. Among them is ‘Seva Chitra’ which is a painting and speech competition for students. Other programmes include ‘Seva Smaran’ which is an awareness project with music and street plays and ‘Aangan Ka Milan’ which is for Anganwadi centres.
One aspect is ‘Seva Mera Yogdan’, which centers on public participation in cleanliness, plantation and beautification work. Officials have been asked to identify places in assembly constituencies where such activities might take place. The campaign also covers innovation, youth engagement and documentation of beneficiaries’ experiences.
The programme will also have to include outreach about government welfare schemes. In preparation for the campaign, the administration has planned camps under ‘Seva Setu Abhiyan—Sarkar Aapke Dwar’ to allow for benefits under government schemes.
Campaign To Go Beyond September
Apart from the month-long Seva Sankalp Abhiyan, Bihar has also planned the longer ‘Seva Sankalp evam Kayakalp Abhiyan’. The programme will be going on until March 31, 2027, according to the Chief Minister’s Office. Education, health, social welfare, rural development, panchayati raj and urban development will be included under the programme.
The government has said that such a longer campaign will be focused on improvement work and the functioning and maintenance of public facilities. Preparations are being organized across departments and officials are being directed to keep timelines for the activities.
Samrat Choudhary’s participation in the ‘Ashirwad Ka Diya’ programme comes as Bihar begins the wider Seva Sankalp Abhiyan on September 17. The lamp-lighting event in Patna is one part of a statewide schedule that mixes public participation with welfare, awareness, cleanliness, development and community-focused programmes.
