The administrative operations at the Saraguru Taluk office were disrupted on Monday morning following the receipt of a threatening email at the office's official inbox. The sender alleged that explosives had been hidden within the building and would be triggered in the early afternoon. In an unusual detail, the email reportedly mentioned the name of popular Tamil actor Ajith Kumar, a pattern that has emerged in several recent digital hoaxes across the state.
Police Response and Search Operations
Immediately after the alert, the Mysuru District Police, supported by the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) and sniffer dog teams, cordoned off the area. The following measures were taken:
- Evacuation: All staff and members of the public were immediately cleared from the building.
- Thorough Combing: Security personnel conducted a meticulous search of the office and surrounding grounds to ensure no hazardous materials were present.
- CM’s Security: While Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s schedule in Mysuru remained largely unaffected, his security detail was placed on high alert as a precautionary measure.
A Growing Pattern of Digital Hoaxes
As of the latest reports, no suspicious objects were found, and the threat has been deemed a hoax. This incident follows a string of similar "RDX threats" sent to various District Commissioner and Tahsildar offices in Karnataka throughout December. Authorities are currently working with the Cybercrime Police to trace the IP address of the sender, who is suspected to be using encrypted servers to evade detection.
