Security Measures

More personnel from the Delhi Police and paramilitary forces have also been sent to high-traffic areas including the historic Red Fort, major temples in the capital, mosques, gurdwaras, churches, and tourist attractions, officials claimed. Armed patrol units and Quick Response Teams (QRTs) are present at vulnerable spots in order to ensure immediate protection in case of any emergencies.

The citywide surveillance has been enhanced. CCTV surveillance at prominent landmarks is being monitored in real time, anti-sabotage checks are being done, and security sweeps and patrols are conducted periodically at sensitive places. All access points at heritage sites and religious sites are further screened with baggage and ID verification where needed.

Additional Precautions

Police have also stepped up random motor vehicle checks at major intersections and border points that lead into the city. Bomb disposal squads and sniffer dog units are positioned and in close coordination with central intelligence agencies to investigate and prevent credible threats.

Authorities said the alert is preventive and that there is no reason to panic. But the sensitive religious and heritage sites in the capital mean law enforcement agencies aren’t taking any risks. Special attention is being given to areas that normally receive a high volume of foot traffic including at weekends and ongoing cultural or religious events.

Public Advisory

Citizens are cautioned to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities and unattended objects to the nearest police station or via emergency phone or hotline. Those holding large public gatherings are warned to follow security procedures clearly and work closely in conjunction with authorities.

It is important to ensure that the safety of the people and the maintenance of order in the capital is the first priority, and residents and visitors will be looked after accordingly, authorities said.
