The Shivamogga City Corporation and the Police Department have teamed up to remove unauthorized temporary sheds that have been set up as a flower market near the city’s private bus stand. Traders are now given a one-week deadline to vacate the temporary buildings and move to the new commercial complex.
The flower market has been operating for several years in temporary sheds near the private bus stand, after traders were given temporary space during the construction of a multi-storey commercial building on B.H. Road.
Temporary Arrangement Comes to an End
The temporary sheds were established to ensure that flower vendors were able to continue their business while the commercial complex was being built, officials said. Now that the new building is in operation, the authorities have instructed all traders to move to the shops in the newly constructed facility.
The move is aimed at speeding up traffic movement and convenience for people, and better civic interaction and better managing traffic in one of the city’s busiest commercial districts, they said.
Joint Inspection by Police and Civic Officials
On the first day of the enforcement drive, officials from the Police Department and Shivamogga City Corporation visited the flower market and began removing unauthorized extensions and temporary canopies that had been erected in front of several shops.
The authorities also demolished an unauthorized canteen that had been operating in the flower market premises.
The action was in the process of clearing encroachments and restoring order around the market area, officials said, and not due to this action, but to restore order to the market area in an effort to eradicate encroachments in the area.
Notices Already Issued
The City Corporation and police had earlier served notices to traders regarding the removal of unauthorized sheds along the road in front of the flower market.
The notices instructed shopkeepers to voluntarily dismantle the temporary structures within one week and move their businesses to the new shops being set up in the commercial complex.
Now that the deadline is upon us, officials have started moving the traders on and are asking traders to cooperate with the authorities.
Better Facilities for Traders
The newly built multi-storey commercial building has been constructed to provide better infrastructure and permanent business space for traders. The relocated flower vendors will have better facilities and less congestion around the private bus stand, the government said.
The move is expected to streamline commercial activities and improve the overall appearance and accessibility of the locality.
Civic Drive to Continue
There will be more inspections in the coming days to ensure compliance with the relocation orders. Traders who do not leave the temporary sheds during the time period will be in trouble under municipal regulations.
The Shivamogga City Corporation is asking for all vendors to aid in the relocation to accommodate people and the public to help in the move, and to make the marketplace safer, cleaner, and more organized for all traders and the public.
