A streamer has been criticized after a video appeared to show him damaging items inside a clothing store while filming content for social media. The video, which has been circulating online, quickly turned into a heated exchange between the streamer and the shopkeeper over the cost of the damaged merchandise.
The video shows the streamer inside the store as items are allegedly smashed or damaged while the camera continues recording. What could have been a strategy to draw attention to them soon went into a fight over who would pay for the damage.
The shopkeeper confronted the streamer and asked him to pay ₹5,000.
“You broke it. Pay ₹5,000,” the shopkeeper told him.
At first he refused to take any responsibility for the full amount. The item was already defective and it was in a similar state before, he said, so it had been in a similar state before.
“What? ₹5,000? It’s not broken. See, it was like this earlier also, defective,” the streamer said.
The shopkeeper had no idea how to explain that such an object had been damaged during the event and insisted that it was.
The shopkeeper said: “It’s completely broken.”
The dispute continued and the streamer offered to pay only the repair expenses. He offered ₹4,000 as a possible settlement.
“I’ll pay the repair cost. I’ll pay ₹4,000,” the streamer said.
The shopkeeper, however, seemed unwilling to accept the less and decided to escalate the situation. He told the streamer he was going to call the police.
"Alright, I’m calling the police,” he said.
It was almost as though the mention of police involvement changed the situation. The streamer then agreed to pay the entire ₹5,000 and indicated that he wanted to leave the store.
“Fine, I’ll pay the full amount. I am leaving,” he said.
The video has received attention online and viewers have questioned whether damaging property for social media content can be justified as entertainment. The incident has also raised questions about the growing trend of creators staging stunts or performing disruptive acts to generate views and engagement.

But shopkeepers can suffer real financial loss from such events. Products damaged may need to be fixed or replaced, and confrontations inside a store can also disrupt business as usual.
The details of the incident are unclear from the short video and it is not known if the damaged item had any prior defect. It is also unclear whether the shopkeeper filed a police complaint after the streamer agreed to pay the requested amount.
The video shows people can be very risk-taking in creating viral videos. The stunt just to generate attention can quickly become a costly confrontation when someone has a piece of property.
So as social media is still heavily rewarded for excellent content, the episode is just another example of how the pursuit of views can have effects beyond the screen.
