They believed the paneer was not made from milk, but from palm oil and acetic acid, which are harmful substitutes and can lead to serious health issues. The paneer was stored in freezers and packaged as non-branded analogue paneer prepared for sale in local dairy and fast food establishments.

  • Paneer seized: 1,401 kg ₹3.08 lakh.
  • Machinery and raw materials: Worth ₹25 lakh.
  • Total seizures: ₹28.44 lakh in goods.

Mahesh Kumar Sharma ran the factory and reportedly provided adulterated paneer all over Surat.

This paneer was manufactured from chemical blends and palm oil, rather than milk. It was then packed and shipped to unsuspecting consumers. Authorities also found weighing machines, stickers and packaging materials that made the product look authentic.

The raid was carried out by the Surat Special Operations Group (SOG) and Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) Food Safety Department.

  • Laboratory tests have been dispatched for samples of the paneer.
  • The accused has been arrested.
  • Further investigations are running to trace the supply chain and map out potential distributors.

Paneer is quite common in Indian households, in particular for festivals. Paneer adulterated with chemical ingredients is often harmful to the stomach and may result in life-threatening illness. The case exposes the dangers of food adulteration and the need for rigorous scrutiny.

The Surat paneer factory bust reminds us of the significance of keeping food safety enforcement at the forefront. With 1,401 kg of adulterated paneer confiscated, authorities have stopped a serious health threat during Holi celebrations. That highlights the importance of consumer awareness, punitive measures and regular checks to make sure what is going into people’s plates is safe and authentic.
