The Tamil Nadu government has said that Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay advised the state to approach the Supreme Court to secure its due share of Cauvery water and seek enforcement of the existing water-release framework.
The legal move was made in the wake of tension between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka over the release of Cauvery water. Tamil Nadu had argued that it should get its stipulated share under water sharing and had pleaded for judicial intervention to make things happen.
According to an official statement, the Tamil Nadu government filed its petition before the Supreme Court on the directions of Chief Minister Vijay. We have sought appropriate directions on releasing Cauvery water and the implementation of orders issued by the relevant Cauvery authorities.
