Hyderabad: BJP’s Telangana unit launched a poster campaign across Hyderabad on Saturday, to mark the completion of 1,000 days of Congress government in the state.
The opposition party used the campaign to attack the ruling government for what it called a lack of progress in terms of delivering on promises and making promises.
According to the Telangana BJP, almost 500 posters were set up in prominent places in the city. The posters are aimed at the Congress government and were placed at some politically significant places like the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) headquarters, Telangana Assembly and the residence of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy.
The BJP is now attacking the Congress government and bringing public attention to issues it says have emerged during the administration.
The BJP’s campaign was to draw public attention and have political conversation in the state and thus they chose prominent locations.
The Congress government came to power in Telangana after the 2023 assembly elections, ending the BRS’ long period of government.
So far, it has continued to expand its presence in Telangana and attacks Congress leadership over governance, implementation of election promises and state-level issues.
The 1,000-day milestone has given BJP a chance to increase its criticism. The posters, they said, had messages against the government's performance and a request for accountability from the Congress administration.
Political poster campaigns have long been at the heart of Telangana politics. During times of political activity, parties often utilize public spaces, billboards and posters to communicate directly with voters. Political parties can also use this to inform the public on big political events.
The latest BJP campaign will add to the political tussles between the ruling Congress and opposition parties in Telangana.

While the BJP has exploited the 1,000-day mark to question the government's performance, the Congress will be able to defend its performance and the schemes and initiatives that it has launched during its tenure.
Placement of posters near government and party offices also gives the campaign a symbolic political edge. Places like the Assembly and TPCC headquarters are closely linked to the functioning of the state government and ruling party and are in close proximity to the state government and the ruling party so that they are the focal point of an opposition campaign.
With the next phase of Telangana politics likely to be more oriented at governance and delivery of electoral promises, such campaigns could become more frequent.
The BJP poster campaign shows that it wants to keep its presence visible on the ground and challenge the claims and performance of the Congress government.
The political debate over the Congress government's 1,000 days will be about whether its promises have delivered as far as it is concerned and whether it seems to be true for Hyderabad and Telangana’s voters to be about whether or not the party's 1,000 days of office under the Congress government have delivered on its promises.
That debate has been brought back in the public eye through a visible display of the BJP's latest campaign in recent months in the state capital.
