In a shocking incident that has lit up social media, a truck driver chased a police officer for nearly 13 kilometres after claiming the officer took ₹20,000 from him during a traffic inspection. The driver confronted the officer and retrieved the missing cash, the police officer said.
It started when the truck was stopped for a routine traffic check on the truck's side, reports say. One of the police officers took out ₹20,000 cash from his belongings during the inspection, the driver claims. Initially unaware of what had happened, the driver soon found out that the money was missing after the officer walked away from the spot.
Determined to get back his money, the truck driver immediately started following the police vehicle. That took 13 kilometres of chase, and the driver did not give up and continued to follow it.
Eventually, the driver was able to intercept the officer and confronted him over the missing cash. The ₹20,000 was given back to the driver after the encounter. Videos and eyewitness accounts of the incident have started circulating widely on social media, and many of them have been viewed.
Police accountability and how they behave during regular vehicle inspections and other factors in the police’s daily routines have raised questions, too. Traffic checks are essential for road safety and to keep regulations in place, but public trust in the system can be eroded by misconduct from law enforcement.
