A 21-year-old man died yesterday after suffering severe injuries in a two-wheeler accident near Kuttaru in Ullal. The deceased, identified as Varshith Kulal, was diagnosed with head injuries and was admitted to a hospital in Deralakatte for treatment.
Varshith’s parents agreed to donate his organs in a very emotional decision after doctors confirmed he had brain death. The family’s willingness to help other patients get potentially life-saving organs has been hailed as an act of humanity amid their grief.
Fatal Accident Near Kuttaru
According to the family and the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), the accident happened at 7.30 pm on Monday near Koragajja shrine at Kuttaru.
Varshith was going to his home from Kuttaru on his motorcycle. When he reached the area near Durga Auto Works, a scooter travelling from Ranipura to Kuttaru collided with his bike.
The impact apparently threw Varshith onto the road, and he sustained serious injuries to his head. Another two-wheeler rider was also seriously injured in the accident.
Varshith was immediately transferred to Yenepoya Hospital in Deralakatte, where doctors treated his severe injuries. His condition was still serious.
Doctors Confirm Brain Death
After treatment, doctors told the family that Varshith's brain had become completely non-functional, according to his family.
Following his brain death, his parents Gopal and Vedavathi decided to donate their son’s organs.
Varshith was the younger son of the couple and lived with his family in the Ayerabettu area of Kuttaru. He worked in the fabrication profession.
The family’s decision means that organs that can be medically retrieved may help patients waiting to be transplanted.
According to hospital sources quoted in the statement, for organs including kidneys, liver, heart and lungs, requests had already been received from various hospitals. The organs were expected to be transported to the hospitals under a 'zero traffic' arrangement to facilitate their quick movement.

The DYFI district committee said it provided guidance to the family regarding the organ donation process and expressed condolences over Varshith’s death.
DYFI Dakshina Kannada district president B.K. Imtiaz, district secretary Santhosh Bajal, Ullal taluk president advocate Nithin Kuttar, secretary Rizwan Harekal, Sunil Thevul, Sanketh Kampa, Mithun Kuttar and Deekshith Kuttar were among those who stood with the family, he said.
DYFI members and relatives, friends and family also offered help and condolences to the bereaved family.
Final Rites
Varshith's final rites were scheduled at 5 pm at his home in Kuttaru yesterday.
