A tragic incident has shocked Vijayapura district after the bodies of a woman and her five children who had been reported missing on August 24 were recovered from Bhutanal Lake on the outskirts of Vijayapura city. The six members were from the same family and lived in Shanti Nagar of Toravi.
The deceased have been identified as Shobha Jalageri, 35, and her five children (Vidya, 15/16, Suvarna, 14, Gowdesh, 10, Sanika, 7, and Vikas, 5/6). Different reports have described different ages for some of the children, and police and news media also have identified Shobha and her five children.
The incident shocked the local community, since the children were all minors, the local area community says.
Family reported missing on 24 Aug
According to initial police information, the family was reported missing on August 24. Shobha's husband, Mallikarjun Jalageri, contacted the police after his wife and children had left home, Mallikarjun Jalageri said of the family. Police said his complaint described a clash between the couple over a domestic dispute.

Six bodies recovered from Bhutanal Lake
Police got information on Wednesday morning that several bodies had been seen in the lake. Police and Fire and Emergency Services workers moved into the area and began recovery efforts.
The bodies were recovered from the water. The incident falls under the jurisdiction of Adarsh Nagar Police Station, and senior police officials, including Vijayapura Superintendent of Police Laxman Nimbargi, visited the site as the investigation continued.
The bodies were sent to BLDE Hospital for post-mortem examinations and further procedures.
