Police have arrested a 23-year-old man from Amroha in Uttar Pradesh in connection with a case registered after a video allegedly showing cow slaughter surfaced and circulated on social media.
The accused is Aurangzeb alias Ajhar, a resident of Amroha, police said. Police said the arrest followed nearly five days of sustained investigation and extensive CCTV analysis and field verification.
Case Registered After Video Goes Viral
The situation was brought to light after a video allegedly depicting cow slaughter was posted on social media and went viral. The police immediately took action as an FIR was filed at Police Station Kotwali.
The FIR was registered under Section 325 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 11 and 38 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, according to the police statement.
Once the registration of the case was completed, police teams began searching for people who were believed to be involved in the case to track their movements.
CCTV Footage Becomes Key Part of Investigation
As part of the investigation, police said they studied thousands of CCTV camera feeds.
The footage was then used to reconstruct the movement of the suspects and their vehicle during the early hours of September 23, 2026. The police said the time period was from around 3:15 AM to 7:00 AM.
The vehicle was followed along with the movements of the vehicle, including its parking in a secluded area and the transportation of an animal. Police said the CCTV findings were verified by field checks.

Main Accused Arrested
Following up on the evidence and leads generated during the investigation, police said they identified Aurangzeb alias Ajhar as the main accused.
The 23-year-old was traced and arrested after that, and police said it took nearly five days to track him down and arrest him.
The investigation will determine the role played by others, if any, in the incident.
