A video of a vehicle allegedly driving on the wrong side of the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway provoking widespread outrage on social media and Delhi Traffic Police’s response was quick to respond.
The video posted early Monday by YouTuber AKTK shows a Haryana-registered vehicle speeding toward the filmer’s car on the wrong side of the road. Users immediately voiced concern for the growing danger of speeding on busy highways.
Viral Video Raises Safety Concerns
The Haryana-plated vehicle can be seen racing directly towards the camera vehicle and the designated lane for travel is empty behind the road barriers.
The video worried the viewer that the driver appeared to be deliberately failing to follow traffic rules and was not following the law even though there is a safe and legal route available for him.
And the incident revived concerns about wrong-side driving, which is among the most dangerous traffic violations on Indian roads and a major cause of head-on collisions.
Social Media Demands Strict Action
The viral clip received strong reactions online, and users called for immediate action against the driver.
Many social media users wanted:
- Arrest of the driver
- Driving licence suspension or cancellation
- Seizure of the vehicle
- Strict enforcement against repeat offenders
All the commenters said wrong-side driving should be considered a criminal offence because the potential for other road users to be killed may be terrible.

Delhi Traffic Police Respond
After receiving the online backlash, Delhi Traffic Police initiated action on the incident.
The matter was passed on to the Area Traffic Inspector for review and appropriate action, they said. Residents can report traffic problems on the Prahari app, which lets the public submit proof of dangerous driving and other offences.
The quick response was welcomed by many social media users, but many users of social media said that there needs to be visible enforcement measures if the driver is found.
A Growing Road Safety Challenge
The incident is part of a much wider problem with Delhi’s roads.
Wrong-side driving is still one of the most dangerous traffic violations in the capital and has resulted in serious accidents and deaths. Enforcement has been stepped up throughout the year to curb this practice.
According to data from Delhi Police, 1,170 FIRs for wrong-side driving have been registered so far this year. There are 1,179 vehicles seized as part of a police crackdown on traffic offenders.
We have been reminded by road safety experts that even a single instance of wrong-side driving can cause catastrophic crashes, especially on highways like the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway.
Calls for Stronger Enforcement
Viral videos like the above one are once again raising doubts about how tough existing penalties are to stop dangerous driving behaviour. While authorities have intensified enforcement efforts, many citizens are calling for stricter punishments, increased surveillance and greater public awareness to reduce the risk posed by reckless drivers.
As the investigation continues, we will see that the consequences of not following traffic rules are all too clear: we will be stuck, and we will definitely be stuck. ( video-source is not verified by our team)
