The victim has been identified as Imam, a resident of Kishanganj district in Bihar. According to the police, Imam worked as a traditional faith healer, locally known as an ojha. His headless body was discovered on Tuesday in the No. 9 section of the Haskhowa Tea Garden under the jurisdiction of the Bagdogra Police Station.

The case initially baffled investigators as the body had been deliberately mutilated in an apparent attempt to conceal the victim's identity. However, police recovered an identity card from the deceased's belongings, which enabled them to identify Imam. His family was informed, and relatives later confirmed his identity at North Bengal Medical College and Hospital.

During the investigation, police uncovered what they believe was a carefully planned conspiracy. According to investigators, Imam's wife, Tumpa Ghosh alias Momina Begum, was allegedly involved in a long-term extramarital relationship with Sudip Pal, another traditional faith healer from Bagdogra. Police said Sudip is married and has two sons.

Investigators believe the two allegedly conspired to eliminate Imam so they could continue their relationship without obstruction. As part of the alleged plan, Imam was reportedly lured to the Haskhowa Tea Garden, where the murder took place.

Police allege that Sudip Pal, along with his nephews Bapi Pal and Nitai Pal, and their friend Kaushik Nath, joined Momina in executing the plan. According to the investigation, the accused allegedly slit Imam's throat, beheaded him and abandoned his headless body in the tea garden in an effort to destroy evidence and delay identification.

The swift breakthrough came after Bagdogra Police launched an intensive investigation involving forensic evidence, witness statements and technical surveillance. Within two days, investigators tracked down and arrested all five accused.

The arrested individuals were produced before the Siliguri Sub-Divisional Court, which remanded them to police custody for further interrogation. Police are now working to establish the complete sequence of events, recover the missing weapon and other evidence, and determine whether anyone else was involved in the alleged conspiracy.

The case has shocked residents of both West Bengal and neighbouring Bihar due to the brutality of the alleged crime. It has also reignited discussions about crimes stemming from personal relationships and the lengths to which individuals may allegedly go over extramarital affairs.

Police officials have stated that the investigation is still underway and additional evidence is being collected. Authorities are also attempting to recover the victim's severed head and gather forensic evidence that could strengthen the prosecution's case.

As the investigation progresses, the Bagdogra murder case is expected to remain under close public and judicial scrutiny, with police seeking to ensure that all those responsible are brought to justice.
