Taylor was unbeaten on 103 off 135 deliveries (11 fours, four sixes). He helped Zimbabwe get into a good position against Afghanistan as they reached 225/2 at the end of day one.

The century is an important moment in Taylor’s international career showing he can compete at the highest level even after turning 40.

Brendan Taylor Delivers a Special Century at 40

Taylor’s century was one of the talking points on the opening day in Sharjah. The right-hander used his experience and attacking stroke play to put pressure on Afghanistan’s bowling attack.

He was patient in the early stages of his innings before accelerating through well-timed boundaries and big sixes.

His ability to change the pace of the attack and find gaps in the field kept Zimbabwe going. The innings also showed he understood Test cricket — partnerships and managing different phases remain important.

For Taylor, three figures at 40 is another milestone in an already long international career.

From International Debut in 2004 to Century at 40

Born in Harare on 6 February 1986, Brendan Taylor made his Test debut against Sri Lanka in May 2004.

Over the years he has become one of Zimbabwe's most recognisable cricketers, playing for the country in all three formats of international cricket.

His career has been characterised by batting brilliance, leadership roles and times when he has had to work hard away from international cricket.

Taylor’s experience has made him a key figure in Zimbabwean cricket and his latest century is another feather in the cap of more than two decades of playing.

Seventh Test Century Adds to His Legacy

Taylor had six Test centuries before the Afghanistan match but his third three-figure score of the series takes him to seven Test hundreds.

His highest Test score before this match was 171 and he had already scored more than 2400 runs in the format.

To score another century at 40 is very significant because few international batters continue to produce major performances in Test cricket at that age.

Taylor’s success also inspires younger Zimbabwean players with discipline, fitness and experience.

Zimbabwe Build a Strong Position Against Afghanistan

Zimbabwe went into the first Test looking to start the two-match series on a positive note.

Captain Brian Bennett won the toss and elected to bat first at Sharjah Cricket Stadium.

Zimbabwe’s batting order looked to make the most of the opportunity with Taylor playing a big role in strengthening the middle order.

His partnership with other Zimbabwe batters helped the visitors post a competitive first-innings total and put pressure on Afghanistan.

Afghanistan meanwhile will try and find breakthroughs and stop Zimbabwe extending its lead.

A Memorable Day for Zimbabwe Cricket

Taylor’s seventh Test century at 40 is a special moment for Zimbabwe cricket. It shows that experience is valuable in a format which requires concentration, patience and technical ability.

Cricket continues to attract young exciting players but Taylor’s innings proves that even the veteran can still perform well.

As the Afghanistan-Zimbabwe Test continues fans will be watching to see how the visitors build on what their veteran batter has laid out.

At 40 Brendan Taylor has given Zimbabwe fans something to cheer about again.
