India will play West Indies in the third and final ODI of the series as hosts have already clinched a 2-0 lead. The match will provide India the opportunity to complete a 3-0 series sweep and West Indies will hope to attain a small consolation victory.
The three-match ODI series started on September 27 in Thiruvananthapuram before moving to Guwahati for the second match. The final ODI will be played in Mullanpur, New Chandigarh.
India vs West Indies: What happened in the first two ODIs?
India won the opening ODI after successfully chasing West Indies' 295/7. The second match was even more of a run-fest with West Indies putting on 405/7 and India chasing down the target with eight wickets to spare.
Shubman Gill was the star of India’s chase in Guwahati, producing an unbeaten 223. Rohit Sharma also scored a century as India completed a remarkable chase of 406.
Can West Indies avoid a clean sweep?
West Indies have shown a good batting strength in the series, especially in the second ODI. But their bowling attack has been unable to contain India's batting lineup.
So the last ODI has two clear possibilities: India can complete a 3-0 whitewash and West Indies can finish the series with a 2-1 scoreline if they win the final match.
India’s team management will use the match as an opportunity to assess players competing for a place in the team to prepare for the ODI World Cup 2027. There are also reports that players like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Dhruv Jurel and Nitish Kumar Reddy could be among those who could be considered as India continues to experiment with their squad.
