Jasprit Bumrah added another remarkable milestone to his growing list of achievements on Tuesday as he became the first player in world cricket to take at least 50 wickets in all three international formats on home soil.
For India’s second T20I against Afghanistan at Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, it’s the landmark in which the experienced pacer is again a crucial player. India defeated Afghanistan by 7 wickets and is now 2-0 up in the series.
Bumrah Completes Historic Triple
Bumrah entered the contest with 49 T20I wickets in India and needed only one dismissal to reach the landmark. He did it when he removed Mohammad Nabi in Afghanistan’s innings with Shreyas Iyer completing the catch.
Nabi scored 20 runs off 14 deliveries before becoming Bumrah’s 50th T20I wicket on Indian soil. The Ahmedabad-born fast bowler finished the match with figures of 1/25 from his four overs.
Bumrah’s T20I tally in India now stands at 50 wickets from 45 matches. His numbers across the other two international formats make the achievement even more significant.
The pace spearhead has taken 62 wickets in 16 Tests and 64 wickets in 41 ODIs in India. And adding his 50 T20I wickets means Bumrah has now crossed the 50-wicket mark in Tests, ODIs and T20Is on home soil.

Axar Patel leads the T20I Wicket Chart in India
While Bumrah has now reached the 50-wicket mark in T20Is in India, he is not the leading wicket-taker in the format on home soil.
Axar Patel currently leads the list with 57 wickets, followed by Arshdeep Singh with 55. Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan has 53 T20I wickets in India, while Bumrah has moved to 50.

Tim Southee Holds Country Record
The broader record for the most T20I wickets by a bowler in a single country belongs to former New Zealand pacer Tim Southee. He took 91 T20I wickets in 68 games played in New Zealand between 2008 and 2024.
Southee's record in his home country also includes 234 Test wickets and 99 ODI wickets.
Ish Sodhi is next on the T20I list in New Zealand with 77 wickets while Rashid Khan has taken 76 T20I wickets in the United Arab Emirates. Virandeep Singh has 75 wickets from 70 T20Is in Malaysia.
Rashid also holds another unique distinction, having taken at least 50 T20I wickets in two different countries.
But for Bumrah, the performance against Afghanistan marks another major achievement in an already decorated international career. Reaching 50 wickets in all three formats in India highlights his sustained effectiveness across Tests, ODIs and T20Is and places another significant record alongside his growing list of accomplishments.
