India has touched down and started preparing for their red-ball match on island, starting with a three-day warm-up match in Colombo (7.00 p.m., Aug. 7). The touring team of newly-promoted Test captain Shubman Gill and vice-captain KL Rahul will use this practice game to have a plan in place for their two-Test series to come.
The series, which will be part of the ongoing ICC World Test Championship 2025–27 cycle, will start with the first match at Galle International Stadium on 15 August and the second at Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC) in Colombo on 23 August.
Preparations have not been all smooth sailing for the visitors. Just before the trip, India suffered a major blow when pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah was sidelined with a persistent knee injury. Young Jammu & Kashmir pacer Auqib Nabi was brought in for a national call-up. Veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has returned to the team and provides depth to the spin options of Kuldeep Yadav and the new Saransh Jain.
With spin-friendly tracks for Galle and Colombo teams, the management is taking advantage of the warm-up days to gauge the readiness of the batting order against turning conditions. India will be eager to establish itself early in the WTC cycle and continue to defend its good away record on Sri Lankan soil.
