The result also had an impact on both ends of the league table as Liverpool consolidated fourth place and Manchester United remained dangerously close to the relegation zone.

Liverpool Beat Brighton 2-0

Liverpool took the victory 2-0 against Brighton at Anfield. At home the home side had a good start and took the lead in the 17th minute through a Pascal Gross own goal.

Alexander Isak doubled Liverpool's advantage in the 21st minute to give the hosts control of the match. Brighton tried to come back into the game but Liverpool held on to take all three points.

The win lifted Liverpool to fourth place with 15 points from eight games. Brighton remained third with 16 points despite the defeat.

Manchester United humiliated by Bournemouth

Manchester United suffered a 3-0 defeat against Bournemouth at Old Trafford and the pressure on manager Michael Carrick and his team is mounting.

Rayan opened the lead in the 38th minute before Marcus Tavernier struck five minutes later. Evanilson scored Bournemouth's third goal in the 71st minute to complete an impressive away victory.

United struggled to respond and failed to score in front of their home supporters. They were left 16th with seven points from eight games, just one place above the relegation zone.

It was another wake up call concerning United’s consistency and ability to move away from the bottom of the table.

Newcastle Beat Crystal Palace

The victory gave Newcastle a valuable three points and improved their position in the league.

Neither side could find a winner and both teams had to settle for a point.

Sunderland and Leeds Play Out a Draw

Sunderland and Leeds United finished 0-0 at the Stadium of Light. Both teams were unable to break the deadlock in a match that produced no goals.

The draw left Sunderland at the bottom of the table while Leeds stayed in the middle of the table.
