Prithvi Shaw who used to be one of India’s bright young batting talents is back into the limelight again in preparation for the IPL in 2026. Back in Delhi Capitals after an indifferent season during 2025, Shaw will have to get back into Delhi Capitals with a new hope. His aim is the IPL for himself and with all the right team behind him.
Shaw has not been smooth sailing. He last played for India in 2021 for a T20 international with Sri Lanka and since then there’s been questions about fitness, determination and the regular running of the team not playing any international or Test unit. And his IPL performances suffered because he made only 304 runs in 16 innings across two seasons. One of his biggest regrets was in 2025 when he was unsold in the IPL auction that was cancelled so far away from the tournament.
Shaw’s now here to change the narrative. Delhi Capitals have given him another chance and he’s doing everything to be able to show he can’t be without it. He recently said that he is putting on what he considers to be “200% effort” and has no doubt that he will get back to Team India. By using the aggressive batting style at the top of the order, his delivery style could prove his strength for Delhi Capitals, who will be playing the Lucknow Super Giants on April 1, 2026.
I’ve often talked about the struggles of our way up, having been mentally and physically reset, said Shaw. The break has helped clarify how he feels, the way he knows himself through it. And his words speak of what discipline means and consistency for our coach is important. “That’s why I’m playing. I want to get back to the Indian team,” he said, hungry to put his hand after the last game to get it.
The IPL 2026 season will be a test of Shaw’s resilience. Excellent performances could restore his profile and enable him to make the limited overs team in India. Not only will Delhi Capitals’ performances at the height set the table for their campaign, for Shaw personally overcoming setbacks with his personal experience and getting off the ground is also not something that goes away by itself.
Prithvi Shaw’s story is a story of redemption. Despite his bad performances with form and discipline he was with Delhi Capitals having already quit for a while. If not it will all change his destiny after his IPL 2026 and will be successful in the end.
