Yuki Bhambri is looking forward to his US Open 2026 with New Zealand’s Michael Venus to follow up in the men’s doubles events with the Indian player. In 2025 Bhambri made the semifinals in New York and is going to be able to make a deep run of the Grand Slam this year.
Bhambri reflected on his previous US Open campaign in an interview with JioStar and described last year’s experience as a watershed moment in his career. And being in the semifinals gave him the experience and made him more confident that he can compete with some of the best doubles teams on the international circuit.
“I think it’s a bit of a mental switch, having made a deep run and being quite close to making the final last year. So, I have fond memories from last year, making it to the semi-finals,” Bhambri said.
The 2025 campaign turned out to be a watershed moment for the Indian tennis player in the future. The victory on a Grand Slam can be the first step for the players to achieve high levels of success in the future so that they have been able to play a great tournament and a strong performance at a Grand Slam can give them the confidence to continue to work hard at the top level of development for the future tournaments and Bhambri believes that the memories from last year’s Grand Slam will help him go into the 2026 edition on the way forward with a positive mindset.
“Obviously last year was spectacular for me and a bit of a breakthrough moment, so I’m looking forward to going out there again. I’m excited; it’s the last Slam of the year, and I’m definitely excited to come out and perform,” he said.
New York Holds a Special Place for Bhambri.
Bhambri also enjoys a strong relationship with New York City apart from his memories on the court. And the Indian star described New York as one of his favourite cities and praised the unique atmosphere surrounding the US Open.
“I love New York, it’s one of my favourite cities. I love coming here. I’ve been on a lot of vacations here but I just can’t get enough of New York. So, yeah, it’s the best place in the world to play tennis,” Bhambri said.
The US Open is well-known for its huge crowds and electric atmosphere. For Indian players, the tournament can also be a great experience because there is so much of the Indian community in New York and surrounding cities.
Bhambri said he is supported by Indian fans so much that playing at the tournament becomes even more memorable to him.
“Obviously, it’s a great crowd over here, with a lot of Indians coming out and supporting. It’s absolutely electric,” he said.
The player also mentioned the special experience of seeing matches at Arthur Ashe Stadium, where the biggest moments in tennis take place. The atmosphere created by thousands of passionate spectators adds another dimension to the tournament.
Bhambri and Venus face tough opening test
Bhambri and Michael Venus will start their US Open 2026 men’s doubles match up against American pair Ryan Seggerman and Patrik Trhac. A tough match-up with American players who are home fans will be the first round.
Bhambri knows the team can’t afford to underestimate the opponent. He also said that the tournament has already witnessed some unexpected results and upsets.
“We obviously have a tough first round against two local Americans. We’ve already seen so many upsets, so you can’t really look past the first round. Every match is tough,” Bhambri said.
Doubles tennis can be unpredictable, as momentum changes quickly and small margins can influence the outcome. A good serve, a big break or a successful tie-break can change the course of a match completely. And Bhambri and Venus will need to stay focused from the first round.
Targeting Another Deep Run
Despite the challenge, Bhambri is optimistic about Venus. One match at a time and in the larger mission of getting deep into the competition at the same time, they both will work hard to do so.
"I think we’ll probably take it match by match, but hopefully, we can go deep again. That would be great. I’m back to playing with Michael, and we’re both looking forward to it,” Bhambri said.
The partnership brings together two experienced doubles players that have good doubles game and are capable of taking on the tough competition. Venus has made it to the big international doubles players on the top and Bhambri is still improving in his doubles career.
Bhambri has in 2026 the US Open as another chance to keep the momentum that he developed last year with the semifinal appearance. He can go deep into Grand Slams, but he will need to be consistent and cool in the tournament.
