Dhanveer Gowda Faces ED, IT Complaint Over Alleged ₹10 Crore Cash Transaction With Vijayalakshmi Darshan

Kannada actor Dhanveer Gowda has been accused of being involved in an alleged ₹10 crore cash transaction involving Vijayalakshmi Darshan, wife of actor Darshan, in India. An advocate, Prashanth Methal, has filed a complaint with the ED and the Income Tax Department to probe the source and legality of such transactions.

The allegations have been made after the financial dispute between Dhanveer Gowda and Vijayalakshmi. But the claims are only allegations, and the filing of a complaint does not establish that any illegal transaction took place.

According to the complaint details reported by Kannada media, the advocate has asked central agencies to investigate whether a large amount of money was transferred in cash and if the transaction complied with applicable financial and tax laws.

Complaint Seeks Investigation Into Alleged ₹10 Crore Deal

The complaint is about an alleged financial transaction of ₹10 crore between Dhanveer Gowda and Vijayalakshmi Darshan. Advocate Prashanth Methal has approached the ED and the Income Tax Department to seek details of the transaction and the source of the funds.

The complainant has questioned the alleged use of cash for such a large transaction and called for the authorities to investigate whether any legal violations occurred.

The Enforcement Directorate investigates offences under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, where the relevant legal requirements are met. The Income Tax Department, meanwhile, looks for violations of income tax rules that are around cash transactions and income reporting.

Whether either agency initiates an investigation, and what may follow, will depend on the complaint, evidence, and the authorities’ assessment of their jurisdiction.

Darshan's Legal Case and the Reported Financial Dispute

In addition, the situation has attracted attention as the actor working on the matter, namely, Darshan, is accused in the Renukaswamy murder case.

Vijayalakshmi has been involved in efforts related to Darshan's legal proceedings. Dhanveer Gowda was reportedly supportive of her efforts before, according to the news report.

But reports in recent months have suggested that Dhanveer Gowda and Vijayalakshmi have some issues, and that their financial dispute is getting public attention.

The reported ₹10 crore transaction has become one of the major issues in the complaint filed to the two departments. The complainant has asked that the facts of the alleged transaction be established rather than allowing questions about the source of the money to remain unresolved.

There has been no evidence in the supplied report that the agencies have established wrongdoing by either party.

What Does the Law Say About Large Cash Transactions?

There are also questions about India’s restrictions on high-value cash transactions.

Section 269ST of the Income Tax Act, 1961, generally restricts a person from receiving ₹2 lakh or more in cash in specified circumstances, including certain single transactions, transactions relating to one event or occasion, and transactions from a person in a day, subject to statutory exceptions.

The provision also deals with money being received and is not a blanket rule that every cash payment above ₹2 lakh is automatically illegal in every case. Other provisions could also apply depending on the transaction, the parties involved, and the exceptions.

If the alleged ₹10 crore cash transaction occurred, the authorities would need to investigate the circumstances, the source of funds, the purpose of the payment, and the relevant legal provisions to determine whether a violation took place.

The filing of a complaint alone does not prove that the transaction occurred in the manner alleged.

Advocate Calls for Equal Application of the Law

Advocate Prashanth Methal has claimed that the law should apply equally to the ordinary people and the rich and influential.

In his report, it was said that he has urged the authorities to investigate the alleged financial transactions with the same seriousness as other legal matters are examined.

The complaint will keep the focus on the financial dispute between Dhanveer Gowda and Vijayalakshmi Darshan to see if the alleged transaction happened, how and from where the money was received, and what is going to happen if it is under tax or money laundering laws.

Possible illegal cash transactions or money laundering would be determined by the evidence and what comes out of the investigation, we’re all told.
