CT Ravi has launched an all-out attack on the Congress after the National Democratic Alliance won four elections in Karnataka state and called it an indication of future political developments.
Ravi also challenged Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar and other Congress leaders to prove their allegations regarding irregularities in Karnataka's electoral rolls.
Ravi claimed that the results reflected public discontent with the Congress government's performance, rising prices and alleged corruption. He also pointed out that the elections were conducted using ballot papers and that this was in line with the BJP-Janata Dal (Secular) alliance support beyond elections conducted using electronic voting machines.
His comments come at a time when there are political disputes in Karnataka over voter-list revision, electoral irregularities and elections.
CT Ravi Says NDA Victory Is a Setback for Congress
Ravi said that the results had given the Congress a significant political setback in four Legislative Council elections.
He also took a swipe at DK Shivakumar, saying that the Congress leader’s supposed political honeymoon period had not even ended before the party suffered the electoral setback.
Ravi argued that the outcome should be taken as more than a single election result, and may be a pointer to the future politics of Karnataka.
He also accused the Congress government of failing to put public welfare first and allowing price increases to become a major concern for ordinary citizens.
BJP leader Ravi claimed the ruling party has used politics to divert public attention with political controversies and accusations on the side of the government.
The Congress has its own political perspective on these issues, and how electoral the results will be will ultimately depend on the election of Congress, and, in general, on the mood of the electorate.
'Ballot Paper Elections also Favoured BJP-JDS'; CT Ravi
One of Ravi's important arguments was about using ballot papers in the Legislative Council elections.
He added that the NDA’s performance demonstrated that BJP and JD(S) could win elections by means of ballot papers as well as electronic voting machines.
His comments took place in the context of political debates about electoral procedures and allegations on voter-list accuracy.
However, the method used to conduct an election does not by itself establish the validity or otherwise of allegations involving electoral rolls. Such claims need to be examined with evidence.
But Ravi described the result as a message to the leadership of Congress from voters.
CT Ravi Challenges Congress Over 99 Lakh ASD Voters
Ravi also touched on the controversy surrounding about 99 lakh voters who are allegedly classified under the ASD category in Karnataka.
ASD is commonly used in electoral-roll discussions to refer to electors marked absent, shifted, or dead in the list of electors on the electoral roll. The classification itself is not a sign a person has been wrongly removed from the voter list, or an electoral irregularity has occurred.
Ravi, in response to Congress leaders’ objections and others’, challenged them to find 99 lakh people who could convince each other that their names had been incorrectly classified.
He said those raising allegations should bring forward people who could demonstrate they were alive, had not moved away and were not registered as duplicate voters.
Ravi argued that producing such evidence would give credibility to the allegations. Otherwise, the accusations would lack substance, he said.
The BJP leader also took aim at Congress leaders who had questioned the voter-list revision process and staged protests outside the Election Commission's office.
The question was to DK Shivakumar and others who have raised concerns about the electoral rolls.
Voter-List Dispute Continues in Karnataka
The controversy is around the classification and verification of voters during electoral roll revision exercises.
Political parties have been concerned about whether eligible voters may be affected by mistakes in the process. The most important questions are whether names are being marked as absent, if shifted voters are being correctly identified, and if records accurately reflect the status of individual electors.
The problem of these problems require more than political statements to answer these questions are more than political statements. These questions are about more than political statements. Electoral authorities need to look at the relevant records, look at the relevant records, look at evidence, consider claims and objections and allow eligible citizens to correct them, and provide eligible citizens with a process to correct mistakes and provide them with a process to correct the, if a process to correct these questions.
Ravi's demand that Congress leaders produce 99 lakh people is a political challenge rather than an official verification process. The validity of individual claims would need to be assessed through the applicable electoral processes.
The figure of 99 lakh should also be understood in the context of the specific electoral-roll data and reporting period from which it was drawn. It should not be taken to mean the number of voters who were wrongfully deleted from the rolls.
CT Ravi Attacks Congress Over Political Leadership
Ravi also criticised Congress leaders for their unwillingness to accept the popularity of Narendra Modi during his speech in Chikkamagaluru.
He argued that political leadership should be decided through democratic support as opposed to family background or inherited political status.
In a pointed reference to political dynasties, Ravi objected to the notion that belonging to a political family should be regarded as a qualification for becoming prime minister.
His comments were part of a broader attack on the Congress leadership, and the BJP leader accused the opposition of reacting to political setbacks with frustration rather than evidence.
Ravi also urged DK Shivakumar not to make allegations without substantiating them and challenged him to put forward 99 lakh people whose cases could back up the claims.
What the Statements Mean for Karnataka Politics
The exchange is about two major political contests in Karnataka: how the election results are interpreted and the issue of electoral roll accuracy.
As for BJP and JD(S), the NDA’s reported victories give them a chance to challenge the Congress government’s political standing. For the Congress, concerns over voter-list changes are inextricably tied to questions about the protection of eligible voters and the transparency of electoral processes.
The significance of the Legislative Council results will be determined by the constituency of those parties, voting patterns and the election results the next time they are in power.
In the meantime, the voter-list dispute will need to be examined by official records, objections and decisions by electoral authorities.
Ravi’s comments have intensified the political argument, but his accusations about Congress’s motives and the implications of election results remain political claims rather than independent conclusions.
The credibility of competing claims about electoral roll irregularities will depend on verifiable evidence and the formal review process; the political implications of the NDA's reported victories in future elections will be less clear.
